KALIHI UNION CHURCH CREDO

(January 2007)

For over 10 years, KUC has had a variety of mission, purpose, and vision statements to identify who we were, where we were, and where we wanted to go as a church body. All were good – all were purposeful – all were well-intended. Yet somehow, we now seem to be unclear as to what we are all about, that we have somehow lost our “vision.”

Your pastors and elders have wrestled with this issue, and have determined, after much prayer and discussion, to lay out a new statement which embodies our purpose, our mission, and our vision. We call it the KUC CREDO (CREDO being defined as a brief statement of religious beliefs or principles, especially one accepted as authoritative by a church). We want to be…

….a united body of believers who choose daily to give to God, grow in Christ, and go with the Holy Spirit, bringing Him glory and honor as we are being transformed in His presence and living by His power.

What does this mean?

First, we want to find ways to build unity. Three areas that facilitate unity are worship, fellowship, and ministry. As we praise God together, as we grow together in small groups and classes, as we serve one another and our community together, we grow as one body united under God. We learn to think about others rather than about ourselves. We grow to love one another and discover how God loves us. We have made great strides this past year. Let’s continue to grow in our unity.

Second, we need to choose – daily - to give to God, grow in Christ, and go with the Holy Spirit. There are so many things we can give to God: our heart, our lives, our praise, our time, our will, just to name a few. We grow in Christ through prayer, Bible reading, scripture memory, and gathering in groups for spiritual maturity. We go with the Holy Spirit, allowing Him to move us to think, act, and serve in ways that reflect Christ-like behavior, thoughts, actions, and emotions. It is a blessing to witness such actions and responses from you. Continue to choose to follow Christ.

Third, we want to give Him all glory and honor as we are being transformed in His presence and living by His power. Our testimony is one that reflects a strength, courage, mercy, and love that comes from God. The only way we can accomplish this is by allowing Him to transform us, which only happens when we are in His presence. As we are transformed, we, out of faith and obedience, can live our lives by His power, relying on His strength, courage, mercy and love, reaching out to one another and our world for Jesus’ sake.

This year, will you join me and be a united body of believers who choose daily to give to God, grow in Christ, and go with the Holy Spirit, bringing Him glory and honor as we are being transformed in His presence and living by His power?
